With so many technicians to choose from, how do you know who you should pick? We have created a list that includes a few questions that any reputable clinics will not be afraid to answer.
1. Can I see your council licence?
It is an offence to break anyones skin without a valid tattoo licence. In order to have a licence, we must have not only provided the local authority with proof of our training and skills, but we will have undergone rigorous checks from the environmental health department. Do not risk your safety by letting unlicensed people tattoo your face.
2. Can you show me some more before and after pictures?
Unfortunately, website and portfolios can be misleading. Any reputable tech will be able to show you endless pictures of procedures they have carried out at different stages. Be wary if there are no pictures available – or if they only pictures they have are on the fancy website. Unfortunately it is common practice for technicians to use other peoples work to advertise their own. If a particular picture looks to be in a completely different photography style, or skill level from all the others, please ask more questions
3. Can I see the needle before we start?
We always show clients their sterile, single use, sealed needle before starting. Do not be embarrassed to ask to see what the technician will be using on you.
4. Who did you train with?
You can also check the credentials of the training company of where your tech learned their trade.
5. Do I need an allergy test?
You may be told you can sign a disclaimer, but why wouldn’t you do a test? Again, this is your face….dont risk it!
And perhaps most importantly, always arrange a consultation where you have a chance to meet face to face. Check that you like the technician and feel at ease with them. Don’t make a spur of the moment decision about your face, and take your time to ask as many questions about the procedure as you can think of.
All the reputable technicians I know are booked for weeks in advance. If you have anyone that can tattoo you within a couple days notice, or is constantly running Groupons, you may want to ask why?
